What you should know about CANIMAMBO RESTAURANT

The Free Form Fest is a creative arts festival located in the beautiful mountain town of Graskop, Mpumalanga. From Extreme Sports, Children's Activities, Art, A Variety of Live Music, Poetry, Stalls, Nature Walks and MUCH MORE will be showcased at this year's fest! Participation in the event is entirely at own risk. Jose Alberto Marques, bored with the city life, received a contract to run a general dealer in deep dark Africa. Being a sea-faring nation, the Portuguese have always been intrepid explorers and Vovo Jose could not resist the allure of the unknown. So in 1956,he packed his wife and his youngest daughter, at the time and embarked on the three month journey to MoCambique. They arrived at ANGONIA amid the storms and stenches and the chaos of colonial Africa. Plucked from the gulley and packed on the back of a battered old truck, amid the blaring goats, bags of rice and sweating barrels of paraffin they clawed their way through the 'picada'. The conditions where less than perfect but it must have struck a chord with the young family. The contract was only for a year but they stayed a bit longer. Vovo Jose eventually found a office position at the coal mines in MOATIZE-TETE, where Carla ISABEL, their youngest daughter, was born in The outbreak of the war (1974) forced the family to flee to Souh Africa, where they found refuge in the bustle of Hillbrow and its mix of cultures. They survived on the culinary skills of Vovo’s young wife, Maria Augusta, who could seemingly make soups out of thin air. It is with young Carla that the story continues, for her love for the culture and the cuisine was only put on hold for the love of her children. She raised four of them and as soon as they were able to let go of her skirts (although grudgingly) she decided it was time to get back to the Culture of food. With the help of her loving husband, Lance, her beloved children Sean, Nicole, Nando (son in law), Courtney, Wesley and close friends Boudewyn and Nicollette, her dreams started to take shape. The restaurant and brand has grown since then, with another branch open in Dullstroom and a cocktail lounge in Graskop. Enjoy the Graskop scenery as seen through the curtain of Portuguese and Mozambican Restaurant hospitality. Our Graskop Restaurant has been awarded the Platinum Star Award from the Tourism Grading counsel of S.A. The indoor smoking area and Cocktail Lounge is the best place to be on those cold and misty Graskop nights. Chilax in true Mozambican fashion at the ONLY Restaurant in Graskop with a classy, yet comfortable Cocktail lounge.
